Familty Counselling - important factor in RECOVERY

Family Counselling

Addiction can significantly affect families by impairing the functioning, health, and overall well-being of every family member—for those suffering with substance abuse and those who are not, too. Just as problems within the family can influence addiction, a supportive family environment can play an important role in the recovery process. It is imperative to involve the family in the treatment process to enhance the effectiveness of the counseling process.

Importance of family therapy in addiction recovery?

Evidence suggests that people who have family support are more likely to remain in treatment, stop misusing substances, and stay sober. The importance of support applies to relationships of all types. Our Team experienced; Family involvement is important in most of cases.
Family assessment is an important process in addiction treatment. It involves the identification of the present concern and the reason why the family came for treatment at that specific moment in time.

Live Life HealthCare Family Therapist

Our family therapist will explore with the family how substance use is embedded in a cycle of interaction within the family. For example, many young adults and parents are in what we call a fugitive/detective dynamic. The more the young adult acts like a fugitive (hiding, lying) the more a parent acts like a detective (snooping, chasing) – and visa versa. Our family therapists can provide additional education about substance use for the whole family and support family members in reducing their unhelpful behaviors and increasing their effective behaviors. Our Family therapists help identify new skills and then coach family members in the practice of these new skills.
